Frankfurt: Iran consulate blocked by anti-fascists

Please see below for the press release in English translation and German original from the German Antifa-Teheran coalition of events this morning in Frankfurt at the Iranian consulate.

Frankfurt: Iranian consulate blocked and several dozens arrested

This morning at 7 am more than 70 Iranian and German anti-fascists blocked the Iranian consulate in Frankfurt to protest against the massive human rights abuses (torture, executions) committed by the Iranian Regime against the opposition movement.

They blocked the entrances and driveways with banners and barriers to prevent the consulate employees from entering the consulate. This led to some quarrel when a consulate employee tried to drive his car through one of the barriers. With slogans like "Down with the Taliban - in Kabul and Tehran" and "German weapons, German money - kill all over the world!" demonstrators called for the isolation of the fundamentalist dictatorship in Iran and in particular for an immediate end to the business relations of German companies such as Siemens-Nokia.

The unannounced action surprised the police and they held back at first, restricting themselves to regulate the traffic. However, after reinforcement arrived in the form of special units, they went strongly against the demonstrators. Several dozens of people were arrested and brought to Frankfurt’s police headquarters.

Sahra Brechtel, a spokeswoman for the national Coalition for Action "Antifa Teheran", referring to the action, said: "We will come back, it remains a scandal, that despite all the talk of human rights, Germany still maintains business relations with the Iranian regime, while repatriating refugees there, and that they recognise the dictatorship on a diplomatic level. Thus, the opposition in Iran needs every possible support from here as well in their current struggle to overthrow the whole regime in Iran. "

The demonstrators announced further actions. Protests are already planned nationwide in Germany for 11 February and International Woman’s day 8 March. Further information is available at the Internet address: http://antifateheran.blogsport.de
